All involved escape death and injury at Libramiento junction

A dump truck loaded with gravel lost brake power and careened out of control on the approach to the Libramiento intersection with the Chapala-Jocotepec highway mid-afternoon Tuesday, April 5, causing a dramatic multi-vehicle pile-up in which, fortunately, no one was killed or seriously injured.

pg6aIn the driver’s failed attempt to whiz around the corner towards Ajijic, the truck collided with a pickup truck belonging to a local glass and window business and rolled over, landing in the service road at the edge of the Walmart parking lot. Two SUV vehicles that were apparently waiting at the stoplight to turn onto the bypass were also involved in the wreck, showing only minor damages compared to the pickup’s crushed front end.

Officers from the Chapala Traffic Department, a Fire Department and Civil Protection crew, and Cruz Roja first responders sped to the scene to attend to the medical needs of crash victims, untangle the massive traffic jam that ensued and clean up the wreckage.

It was the latest of numerous serious accidents that have occurred at the same spot both before and after the latest redesign of the intersection carried out by the state government.
