Ajijic Art Museum readies for opening

The Ajijic Museo de Arte (AMA) will open its doors at Privada Flores Magón 3 with a gala three-day celebration, starting with an official inauguration on Wednesday, June 1, from 3 to 8 p.m.

Viewing of the museum collection and additional cultural and social activities continue Thursday, June 2, and Friday, June 3, at the same hours.

pg1bThe AMA project is the brainchild of Ajijic artist Efrén González and his wife Reyna Galindo, who barely a year ago became determined to create a space for the preservation and diffusion of quality art created over more than a century by scores of Mexican and foreign artists inspired by Lake Chapala’s landscapes and communities. The couple has spent many months overseeing conversion of their family home into the museum facility, all the while working in collaboration with a volunteer board of trustees to carry out planning and operational tasks.

Although the museum’s principal aim is to showcase the work and trajectory of accomplished artists linked to the Lakeside area, a secondary purpose is to serve as a platform and stimulus for new and emerging talents.
