If you think that traffic in downtown Chapala is vexing now, hold on to your hat. The massive upgrade of Avenida Francisco Madero, the city’s main drag, is slated to get under way on Monday, August 1.
The project funded and operated by the state government’s Secretaría de Infrastructura y Obra Pública (SIOP) will be carried out in several stages over the next two years, broken down into different segments in a plan intended to minimize traffic tangles along the busy thoroughfare.
The first point of intervention will be the stretch of the south-bound lane between Calle López Cotilla bordering the north side of the plaza and Niños Héroes that dead ends across from City Hall. Officers from the municipality’s Direccón de Movilidad (Traffic Department) will help direct and redirect chaotic traffic while work is in progress.
