The Lake Chapala Society staged its first Intercultural Celebration of Life memorial service on November 1, All Saint’s Day.
Three hundred white luminarias with the names of lost love lined paths around the campus, where various Dia de Muertos offerings were on display. Three local faith leaders spoke eloquently about the meaning of death in life.
The finale was a procession led by an ethereal Catrina before a collection of memorial cards was set aflame in a blessed bowl to fill the night air with smoky sentiments of grief, gratitude, grace and a sense of peace.
