A child’s mind is a terrible thing to waste

The village of San Juan Cosala has a great need for supporting the educational goals of children from the deserving but economically deprived local population, including many of indigenous descent.

As an adjunct to the well-established Operation Feed program that provides weekly support to the population, a group has established an Educational Scholarship Program. This program commits resources provided by donations from local people to needy but qualified students from the first grade through high school.

To be eligible for a scholarship, each student must have demonstrated continual commitment to studying and learning. The scholarship program committee follow the students’ grades during the year and provide counseling for students and parents should the student’s performance drop below our standards. They impress on each student that the education will improve their chances for a better life in the future. To date, the program has a demonstrated record of success as students move up the grade levels.
