Chapala area cab rides: How much do they cost?

Local taxi drivers have published the standard fares currently established for rides to common destinations.

For example, transport from downtown Chapala to elsewhere in the city limits goes for 50 pesos, 10 pesos more to the immediate outskirts, 80 pesos to San Antonio Tlayacapan, and 120 pesos to central Ajijic, and vice versa from those places to Chapala centro.

The fare between Chapala and Jocotepec is set at 350 pesos, 280 from San Antonio, and 250 from Ajijic, with reduced rates applied for travel to intermediary points.

A ride to the Guadalajara airport costs 500 pesos from Chapala, 550 from San Antonio, and 600 from Ajijic. The rate increases by 100 to 200 pesos to metro Guadalajara depending upon the distance to the final destination.

Those tariffs go up by 30 percent for nocturnal trips between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m.

A complete chart of updated fares to specific locations is posted on the Taxi Oficial Rivera de Chapala (sic) Facebook page. A listing of cab drivers that includes their years of service and cell phone numbers is also available on the site.

The local taxi trade union (TORC) promises qualified and properly licensed drivers, insurance benefits and safe travel for passengers, and a fleet of recent model vehicles registered with the state for public transportation, distinguishing “legal” service from that offered by independent “executive” drivers operating in the zone.

Taxi stands are located at the Chapala plaza, outside the town’s bus terminal, at the Ajijic plaza, and on the service road opposite the Ajijic Pemex station.
