Murder of local woman under investigation

Officials from the District V Regional Prosecutor’s Office based in Chapala are investigating a probable case of femicide following the September 10 discovery of the body of a 54-year-old woman in her home in the Senderos del Lago development at Chantepec on the eastern outskirts of Jocotepec.

Police officers from Jocotepec were called to the scene on Calle Velero around 3 p.m. where they found the woman’s decomposed corpse in a bedroom. Her hands were bound together with metallic insulating taps.

An agent from the Prosecutor’s Office and investigative police were called in to collect evidence and take charge of the case. The woman’s body was retrieved by personnel from the state’s Forensic Medical Service (SEMEFO) for an autopsy and official identification.

Friends and colleagues of the dead woman have extra-officially identified her as real estate agent MaryAzucena “R” who had been missing since September 1.  They are pointing to her U.S. citizen housemate Ted “C” as the prime murder suspect, saying he apparently disappeared around that time along with her car, personal papers and three dogs.
