Open Circle
Steve Balfour presents “Our Broken Relationship with Charities” at the next gathering of Open Circle, Sunday, June 9, 10:30 a.m. in the garden of the Lake Chapala Society.
The session will start with a video challenging the way we think of non-profits. This presentation is intended to stimulate thought, open our minds to possibilities, and provide a platform to openly discuss our thoughts. We will ask the question: Is the way we think about charity dead wrong?

Chapala Birders
Friday June 14, the Lake Chapala Birders will meet at 8 a.m. at La Cristina on the west side of Ajijic. The group will see some shore birds, and birds in the tall trees along the street. At about 10 a.m. they will head to Fonda Doña Lola restaurant for breakfast and complete the bird list.
To get there, drive about two miles west from Colon, look for signs for Hacienda La Cristina (near a bus stop and signs for Las Palmas), turn down to the lake, and park close to the lake.
Bird walks are open to all those interested in birds, both beginners and experienced birders.
There are always knowledgeable birders on hand to identify the species.
Chili Cookoff
American Legion Post 7 Auxiliary is holding its first annual Bring the Heat! Chili Cookoff fundraiser, scheduled for Father’s Day, Sunday, June 16, from 12:30 to 4 p.m. Entry sheets, payments and rules are available at the Legion.
Last day to sign up is Monday, June 10.
Each chili entry costs 200 pesos. Chili tasting bowls are 50 pesos per person. Tasting begins at 1 p.m.

Canada Day
ANAVETS will host a Canada Day party, Monday, July 1, 1 to 5 p.m. at La Palapa del Guayabo restaurant (at the end of the Chapala Malecon)
Music will be by Gargamel. The menu is chicken Cordon Blue, spaghetti, mixed vegetables and mashed potatoes.
