The Lake Chapala Democrats Abroad chapter hosted the group’s customary U.S. Independence Day party on Thursday, July 4, wrapping this year’s event around the theme: Celebrating Democracy!
The event pulled in a sellout crowd to the Sol y Luna events center in west Ajijic for a menu of typical backyard barbecue fare and dancing to live music by the Frad Band.
Democrats Abroad members fervently believe in the nearly 250-year-history of American Democracy and the precept that all men and women are created equal, entitled to be treated as first-class citizens. Thus, a portion of the 4th of July gathering was set aside for discussion on concerns that democracy and equality are under attack in the 2024 U.S. elections, meaning that voters will face a historic choice between supporting certain continuation of democracy or choosing a darker path.
