A towering wooden totem depicting the faces of Ajijic’s iconic Sayaca masked dancers was unveiled on the northeast corner of the village plaza on August 17.
The piece was created by local artist Alejandro Márquez Ramos, who posed for a photo surrounded by a group of the quirky, costumed dancers.
Márquez has also crafted two other large vertical sculptures: a giant fish erected on the waterfront Malecón and letters stacked to spell out “El Tepalo,” located at the top of Calle Encarnación Rosas next to the guidepost pointing to the popular hiking trail.
