Scuffles erupt after National Guard accident

A tumultuous scene unfolded on Chapala’s Avenida Madero on Tuesday, September 3, around 10 p.m., after a National Guard convoy was involved in a traffic accident.

According to reports, the lead vehicle in the convoy collided with a motorcycle carrying a man and a woman. The woman sustained injuries to her leg and head.

Witnesses at the scene began shouting insults at the officers, as captured in smartphone videos. First responders promptly transported the injured individuals to the Cruz Roja Clinic. The National Guard patrols followed the ambulance, accompanied by several angry motorcyclists who continued to taunt the officers, vandalizing their vehicles with graffiti and rocking them. Some even threw stones at local police who arrived to calm the situation and disperse the crowd.

The injured woman, diagnosed with a femur fracture, was reported to be in stable condition before being transferred to a hospital in Guadalajara. Meanwhile, the driver of the lead patrol was detained and handed over to the public prosecutor’s office to determine his legal status.
