A 12-year-old boy died from severe injuries sustained in a boating accident on Sunday, September 22, near the shore of Lake Chapala at the Piedra Barrenada restaurant row in San Juan Cosalá.
The boy was aboard a kayak with several companions when he fell overboard and became entangled in a rope, which wrapped around his neck and caused fatal injuries.
When family members grew desperate due to the delayed arrival of an ambulance, they placed him in the bed of a pickup truck and rushed him to the Chapala Cruz Roja clinic for emergency assistance. However, a Red Cross ambulance intercepted the vehicle on the highway in La Floresta, where paramedics determined the boy had no vital signs and pronounced him dead.
A forensic team was dispatched to collect the body for an autopsy, while state authorities began investigating the tragic incident.
