Forest conservation vital to Lake Chapala’s future, expert stresses

Speaking at a conference held Saturday, October 5 at Chapala’s Club de Yates, Alejandro Juárez Aguilar, director of Instituto Corazón de la Tierra A.C. (ITC), emphasized the critical role of forest conservation in ensuring the health of Lake Chapala.

pg1bAddressing a gathering of around 100 attendees, Juárez underscored the urgency of restoring and preserving forest lands bordering Mexico’s largest lake.

“If we don’t have forests, we don’t have a lake. It’s as simple as that. And to recover our forests and lake, we need the participation of people,” Juárez stated passionately.

The conference, titled “Challenges to Ensure the Future of Mexico’s Largest Lake,” was sponsored by the Dialogue between Women of Lake Chapala to analyze the lake’s pressing issues and propose solutions.
