Garden Guild

Tickets are still available for the Lakeside Garden Guild’s 2024 Floral Art and Design Show, Saturday, November 16, from 3 to 6 p.m. at Privada Revolución 1 in Upper Ajijic, hosted on the beautiful estate of Jack Talerico and Justo Ramirez, featuring gardens adorned with stunning floral arrangements.

Pride Festival

The 2024 Chapala Pride Festival takes place on Saturday, November 16, 4 p.m. on the Chapala Malecón.   The colorful parade will feature many floats and joyful participants.

Among those taking part will be Ajijic Cares, whose executive director, Mitsu Zapata, will deliver a speech.

Chess

The Huaraches Club invites the community to participate in the 6th annual Los Maestros del Lago Chess Tournament, Sunday, November 17, at the Lake Chapala Society.

Robert William Case  presents “Wings, Guns, and Coming of Age in America: A search for the Positive Masculine” at the next meeting of Open Circle at the Lake Chapala Society, on Sunday, November 17, 10:30 a.m. In the tradition of Joseph Campbell’s “The Hero’s Journey,” Case presents living, working and playing in the aftermath of Columbine from his latest memoir titled “Cycling Through Columbine” (2022). Case will present the importance of keeping your dreams alive, how you can’t buy health (or happiness), but you can buy a bicycle.

Case is a former Jefferson County, Colorado assistant county attorney.

Lakeside Freethinkers

The next meeting of the Lakeside Freethinkers is Sunday, November 17,  3 p.m.

This will be a live meeting at a local restaurant.

Two topics are on the agenda: Bradley Felix’s “Filling a God-Sized Hole: Atheism, Morality and Purpose,” and a discussion led by Chad Olsen on part of Plato’s “The Republic.” This book was authored by Plato around 375 BCE. The section  discussed will be Plato’s criticism of his five forms of government. This is particularly relevant to today’s political climate.

Chapala Birders

Monday, November 25, the Lake Chapala Birders will meet 8 a.m. at La Cristina on the west side of Ajijic. Expect to see some shore birds and others in the tall trees along the street. At about 10 a.m. the group will head to Fonda Doña Lola restaurant for breakfast and to complete the bird list.

Directions: Drive about four km. west from Calle Colon, look for signs for Hacienda La Cristina (near a bus stop and signs for Las Palmas), turn down to the lake, and park close to the lake. All those interested in birds are welcome.

Home tours

Tickets for the Behind the Walls home tours, which benefit the School for Special Children in Jocotepec, are now on sale at Fenix Realty, La Bella Vida, and Make It Cash. Tour dates are Thursdays: November 21, December 12, January 23, February 20, and March 13. Individual tickets are 350 pesos, or save 200 pesos with a season ticket for 1,550 pesos.

Each tour features four beautiful homes in the Ajijic area, and drivers can be requested at the time of ticket purchase. Tickets must be presented to enter the homes. Tours begin near the pier at the third parking lot west of the end of Colón, close to the playground, at 10:15 a.m. and end by 1 p.m.

Health Fair

The Garden of Dreams Boutique Hotel is sponsoring a Health and Wellbeing Fair, Saturday, November 23, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Constitucion 105 in Ajijic.
