The Northern Lights Music Festival is set to return to Ajijic this February, offering two weeks of extraordinary concerts and cultural events.
From February 9 to 22, the festival will present nearly 20 performances featuring over 30 international musicians in venues ranging from the spacious 450-seat Auditorio de la Ribera to smaller, intimate settings hosting just a few dozen attendees.
This season’s program promises diverse musical experiences, including solo recitals, chamber music, jazz, orchestral works, and even a big band performance. Highlights include appearances by renowned artists such as violinists Kevin Zhu and Nancy Zhou, trumpeter Jens Lindemann—who will head to New York afterward to perform with Wynton Marsalis—and pianist David Fung. Cellists Peter Eom, a laureate of the Queen Elizabeth Competition, and Noémie Raymond, who recently debuted at Carnegie Hall, are also slated to perform. Festival favorites like the Gryphon Trio will return, while jazz fans can look forward to performances by Grammy-nominated vocalist and multiple Juno Award winner Caity Gyorgy.
Among this year’s many standout events are a performance of Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue on February 12, the rarely heard but remarkable Enescu String Octet on February 22, and an interactive recital on February 18 where Kevin Zhu will perform Paganini Caprices selected by the audience.
