A widespread power outage disrupted electrical service across the municipalities of Chapala and Ixtlahuacán de los Membrillos at around 8:30 p.m. on Saturday, January 25.
According to officials from the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE), the issue originated at the agency’s substation in El Salto.
Service was restored in most areas within approximately 60 minutes. However, it remains unclear how many residents suffered damage to household appliances and electronic equipment as a result of the outage.
The blackout also impacted the Chapala-Guadalajara water pumping plant near Santa Cruz de la Soledad, causing pressure drops and water supply disruptions in higher-altitude neighborhoods of the Guadalajara Metropolitan Area.
Regular service was gradually restored by midweek.
