Chapala renovations to begin after Carnaval

In January, Jalisco Governor Pablo Lemus announced that the state would allocate more than 500 million pesos (US$24.4 million) for a major urban renewal project in Chapala.

The ambitious initiative includes a complete overhaul of Paseo Ramón Corona and Avenida González Gallo, which connect the Malecón to the former railway station, which now functions as a cultural center. The project is slated for completion by the end of 2026.

On February 14, Chapala Mayor Alejandro Aguirre hosted Jalisco’s Secretary of Infrastructure and Public Works (SIOP), David Zamora Bueno, and his team for a walking tour of the downtown area designated for this extensive renovation.

Following the visit, Aguirre reported that work will be delayed until after this year’s Carnaval festivities, as La Cristianía Park will serve as the venue for key activities through March 4. He did not provide a specific start date for the project.

The renovation of La Cristianía Park will include significant upgrades to transform it into one of Jalisco’s premier sports, cultural and tourism complexes, as touted by Lemus.

During his visit, Zamora announced that the bidding process for the project has already begun.
