The Virgen de Zapopan was welcomed to Chapala with fanfare and fervent displays of faith on Sunday, July 14. Authorities estimate that up to 20,000 pilgrims participated in the religious festivities, which took place between 10:30 a.m. and 3 p.m.
The revered icon visits Chapala each year on the second Sunday of July to offer prayers for the well-being of Lake Chapala. The 2025 celebration marked the 70th anniversary of the lake’s miraculous recovery from near extinction, a recovery the faithful attribute to the Virgin’s divine intercession.
