LCS annual general meeting goes off the rails

The Lake Chapala Society held a fractious and chaotic Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the membership on Tuesday, March 17. In the immediate aftermath and on the following morning, serious questions were raised about the results of the election of new board officers and the very legality of the proceedings.

A last-minute decision to allow members to vote for seven board candidates, instead of five as stipulated under the bylaws, is a major bone of contention. Complaints about irregularities voiced among members who attended via Zoom were rampant.

Early on, as sign-ins began, Chapala police officers and Red Cross responders appeared on the LCS campus, ready to respond in case of any trouble. Their services were not required.
