Former JPO director to conduct London Philharmonic

Classical music enthusiasts who happen to be in Mexico City for the Mexican Independence Day festivities  might want to book now for any of three performances by the London Philharmonic Orchestra, two scheduled at the Palacio de Bellas Artes and one at the Auditorio Nacional.

The September 14, 17 and 18 concerts will be conducted by Alondra de la Parra, the former musical director of the Jalisco Philharmonic Orchestra.

The September 14 concert at the Palacio de Bellas Artes features works by Vaughan-Williams, Revueltas, Knussen, Saint-Saëns and Dvorak.  The City of Birmingham Choir will join the London Philharmonic for two performances of Mahler’s Symphony No.2 “Resurrection” on September 17 and 18. Soprano Olivia Gorra and mezzo-soprano Jennifer Johnston will be the invited soloists.

The concerts are part of the Mexico-United Kingdom Dual Year celebration, which has seen dozens of cultural exchanges between the two nations.

Tickets for the Bellas Artes concerts are priced at 250-1,500 pesos; the Auditorio Nacional performance costs from 300-1,400 pesos. Available from Ticketmaster.
