Foreign minister issues climate rebuke

Attending the G20 Leaders Summit in Italy, and the United Nations Climate Summit in Glasgow, Scotland, both on behalf of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador,

Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrard urged the leaders of the world’s largest economies to release annual funds of US$100 billion so that developing countries struggling with the consequences of the Covid pandemic can work toward combatting climate change.

Twelve years ago, at a U.N. summit in Copenhagen, rich nations made a pledge to channel US$100 billion a year to less wealthy nations by 2020, to help them adapt to climate change and mitigate further rises in temperature.  This goal has not been met, Ebrard and many others pointed out.
