Lopez Obrador outlines his foreign policy objectives

Speaking via video from Covid-19 isolation, President Andres Manuel López Obrador outlined various foreign policy goals for 2022 during a reunion of Mexican ambassadors and consuls held January 11 at the National Palace.

Above all, he stressed the importance of meeting the principles embodied in Article 89 of the Mexican Constitution, especially in regard to non-intervention, the self-determination of peoples and the peaceful solution of controversies. He vowed to protect the interests of the Mexican community abroad, in particular in the face of mistreatment and discrimination. He also urged progress toward the economic and social integration of Latin America, based on the European Union model. López Obrador confirmed Mexico will maintain its tradition of granting refuge status to those in need.
