Mexico’s Culture Secretaryhas called on French authorities to halt the auction of Mexican archaeological artefacts scheduled for April 3.
Alejandra Fraustro said 83 pieces from the Olmec and Tlatilca periods have been put up for sale at the Millon & Associes auction house in Paris.
Recently, 40 ancient artefacts from Italy and a similar number from Germany were returned to Mexico, thanks in part, Fraustro said, to the “Mi patrimonio no se vende” (My heritage is not for sale) campaign aimed at recovering this country’s lost historical patrimony.
