US reinstates Mexican airlines’ safety rating

The US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has restored Mexico’s aviation safety rating to the highest level after the country was downgraded more than two years ago.

According to sector industry reports, the FAA has worked closely with Mexico’s Agencia Federal de Aviacion Civil (AFAC) to resolve the safety and aircraft maintenance issues that led to the downgrade.

The decision will provide a boost to Mexico’s airlines, which have been prohibited from extending their U.S. routes due to loss of category one status.
