Missing students remembered on anniversary

Mexico has not forgotten the enforced disappearance of 43 students from the Ayotzinapa Rural Teacher Training School in Guerrero state—one of the darkest incidents in the country’s recent history.

pg1bThe nine-year anniversary of the students’ disappearance was remembered this week with marches held around the nation, amid continued calls for truth and justice to be served in the case.  Despite vows by President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador to clear up the botched investigation of the previous administration, it is still not known exactly what happened to the students, or where their remains are.  Only traces of three students have ever been identified, and even this forensic analysis is disputed by some.

In Guadalajara, a large group comprised of local students and students from the Guerrero teacher training college, plus relatives of missing persons, marched from the Parque Revolución to the Plaza de Armas, where an observance was held.
