Local authorities in Mazatlan handed out more than 150,000 free glasses for safe viewing of the April 8 solar eclipse.
The Sinaloa resort city was packed to the rafters to witness the three and a half minute period of total darkness that occurred when the moon completely blocked the sun.
In Guadalajara, enthusiasm was also high for the partial eclipse, as the skies darkened and the air cooled when 93 percent of the sun was covered for a few minutes just after midday. Many schools had prepared for the event — including the American School — and took a break from classes to allow their students a rare opportunity to see this amazing celestial occurrence.
