Mexico City’s Felipe Ángeles International Airport (AIFA), one of the flagship projects of former President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, has been nominated as one of the most beautiful airports in the world by the World Prize for Architecture and Design, also known as the Prix Versailles.
Other airports on the list include Zayed International in Abu Dhabi, Changi Airport Terminal 2 in Singapore, Suvarnabhumi Airport Midfield Satellite 1 in Bangkok, Logan International Airport Terminal E in Boston, and Kansas City International Airport.
A Prix Versailles press release highlighted that these “six newly opened or renovated airports and terminals have left extraordinary imprints on their environments.” The release praised AIFA, along with architect Francisco González-Pulido, for its “aesthetically pleasing design” and “carefully designed iconography inspired by culture and tradition, showcasing Mexico’s rich historical heritage.” It also emphasized how the airport “skillfully maximizes natural light at the boarding gates and incorporates a 4,300-square-meter central garden and numerous green areas, offering spaces for activities or relaxation.”
