Travelers with booked flights to and from Mexico may need to double-check their itineraries after the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) revoked 13 current and planned routes operated by Mexican airlines. The move, announced on October 27, drew a sharp and immediate response from Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum.

Sheinbaum firmly rejected the U.S. decision, which primarily targets routes from Mexico City’s Felipe Ángeles International Airport (AIFA).
The dispute stems from a 2023 Mexican decree that moved all dedicated cargo flights from the saturated Mexico City International Airport (AICM) to AIFA. U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy called this an “anti-competitive decision” that unfairly harmed U.S. cargo airlines. In response, the DOT order suspends all combination (passenger and cargo) services between the U.S. and AIFA.
