}All schools, government offices, consulates, and many businesses will be closed, while most large retail stores are expected to remain open. Guadalajara’s traffic-free Via RecreActiva program will be extended through Monday.
Official Constitution Day commemorations will take place on Thursday, February 5, with ceremonies scheduled in cities across the country, including Guadalajara and Chapala.
Constitution Day became a mandatory national holiday under federal labor law in 1931, when Mexico formally established paid rest days. In 2006, the law was amended so the holiday is now observed on the first Monday of February, rather than February 5, to create a long weekend.
