Gale Paquin

Former Ajijic resident Beatrice Gale Paquin died May 1 in Winlaw, British Columbia at the age of 73.

Gale was born July 30, 1938 in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. She and her husband, David Paquin, were only 19 years old when they married in 1957. David passed away in 2002.

In 2007, Gale retired after working for 18 years in the out-patient ward of the Peter Lougheed Hospital in Calgary, Alberta. She then packed up her car and, with her sister Hilary for company, drove to Ajijic.

Gale lived in Ajijic for four years and loved every minute of it. Her main passion was dancing. She went line dancing twice a week at the Lake Chapala Society, danced for some time with the Scottish Country Dancers and was frequently seen dancing at Adelita’s on a Saturday night. She also enjoyed singing at the Karaoke events around town. She was sociable and made many friends in the Lakeside area.

Gale is survived by her daughter Lorette (Lori) Paquin in Winlaw, British Columbia; her son, Douglas Paquin of Saskatoon; a sister, Ann Cox of Saskatoon and another sister, Hilary Stewardson of Ajijic. She had six grandchildren and two great-grandsons.

Her daughter Lori cared for her mother for the nine months after Gale was diagnosed with cancer until she died at home in Lori’s arms with sister Hilary holding her hand. She is missed.
