Austin Ronald Macdonald

Austin Ronald Macdonald of San Miguel de Allende and Ajijic died on March 4 at the age of 86.

Born May 7, 1926 in Wiseton, Saskatchewan, Macdonald grew up in St. Catherine’s and Waterloo, Ontario. He settled in Toronto after attending DePauw University and graduating in 1949, Phi Beta Kappa.

Macdonald enjoyed a brief stint on Broadway and was a consummate salesman, restaurateur and lover of Canadian art that he promoted and collected. He enjoyed being in Mexico the last several years.

He was adored by daughters Kirsten “Kim” Everest and Gillian Macdonald; his son Austin Macdonald and a granddaughter, Alexis White. He is also survived by his sister Greta Roman, a brother, Wallace Macdonald, his first wife Sharon Acker and second wife Aleida Waque.

Cremation has taken place. A “drop-in” style memorial for Macdonald’s friends will be held on March 24, 4-6 p.m. at Restaurant Number Four in Ajijic. Call 766-1360 for more information.
