Mary George Gibbons
Ten-year lakeside resident Mary George Gibbons, 85, died in a Lake Chapala nursing home on July 12 after suffering two strokes.
Born September 5, 1930 in Washington D.C., Gibbons began her adult life as a fashion model, appearing in many television and print ads.
Eschewing screen tests in Hollywood, she chose to enroll in the University of South Carolina, where she supported her daughter and paid the fees by selling her paintings.
She later taught art in high schools and held several government posts.
After accepting the position of Peace Corps director in the Pacific island of Tonga, Gibbons spent two years back-packing her way around the Far East.
She loved to travel, cruise, attend the theater and concerts. Her major loves were music, art and entertaining.
This unique lady leaves behind husband Peter, daughter Nina and sister Jo.
