Melaque cultural center celebrates 5th anniversary

The Centro de Actividades Culturales (Center for Cultural Activities, or CENAC) in the coastal town of Melaque is celebrating its 5th anniversary with a fundraising Street Festival on Wednesday, March 5, starting at 5 p.m.

The event will feature a mariachi band, dancing horses, dance performances, an art auction, a children’s art show, line dancing, and live music for dancing by Trova del Mar. There will also be a special prize draw for a dinner at the Grand Bay Hotel.

The goal of this fundraising event is to support CENAC’s free summer classes for children. This year’s “Buy a Brick, Build a Wall” initiative aims to raise funds for the creation of a new outdoor space at the center, which will not only expand the class offerings but also host concerts.

For ticket information, contact Leonel Brambila at 315-354-7034 or Jeannie McGee at +1 360-647-8137. Tickets are 650 pesos and are available at the center, Galería Amigo, and Leonela Restaurant. CENAC is located at Calle Cabañas 15 in Melaque.  Also, see CENAC on Facebook.

The center offers a variety of classes for children starting at age six and adults alike. Among the offerings are painting, music, singing, guitar, cooking, dance, crafts, storytelling and writing.
