State replaces items damaged in Tlajomulco floods

Jalisco Governor Aristoteles Sandoval this week handed out household items to 240 families affected by the recent flooding in 16 neighborhoods of Tlajomulco.

The ceremony was held in Colonia Jardines del Edén, one of the worst hit areas where dozens of homes were evacuated after water levels rose to nearly two meters during a massive rainstorm on the night of September 30.

The families received 982 replacement articles, including refrigerators, mattresses, washing machines, tables, stoves, sofas and many kitchen items.

Sandoval said his administration is working to find solutions to prevent further flooding in the metro-area municipality, blaming the problem squarely on irresponsible and “corrupt” developers who built homes in “high risk” zones without the correct corresponding infrastructure.
