Female firefighters start training

The first group of female firefighters in Jalisco has begun training under the watchful eye of the National Forestry Commission (Conafor).

The 13-strong brigade is expected to be up to speed by the end of March 2017.

There are currently only 49 accredited female firefighters throughout Mexico, according to Conafor.

As the job demands a high level of fitness, the women will undergo a rigorous training program, including long and tiring treks trough wooded areas.

The trainees will also hear from other female firefighters about their experiences of tackling fires in Mexico.
