Detective, cartel chief among ten arrested transporting six bodies

In a meticulously coordinated operation, officers from the Jalisco Attorney General’s Office (FGE), federal cops and Mexican Army soldiers arrested ten men who were discovered transporting six bodies in two vehicles in a Tlaquepaque neighborhood last Sunday.

Among the detained was Yoni “N” (a.k.a. Big Mama), considered the head of a criminal cell of the violent Jalisco Nueva Generacion Cartel operating in Veracruz and Quintana Roo. According to Attorney General Eduardo Almaguer, he is on a federal “Ten Most Wanted” list and was in Jalisco to give support to the local cartel.

Almaguer believes the killings are related to territorial disputes in Tlaquepaque and El Salto.  He said the gang did not intend to bury the bodies but rather dump them in full public view on the border of the two municipalities as a “warning” to rival groups. The deceased have been identified as small-time drug dealers and criminals, Almaguer added.

Among the ten detainees is a detective employed by the FGE, an occurrence that “brings shame on the force,” Almaguer said. “This criminal stains the institution and damages the work of his colleagues.”
