A supply of fireworks devices stored in a house under construction in the heart of Jocotepec blew up early Saturday, December 12, resulting in extensive damage to the building and neighboring properties.
Two individuals reportedly suffered serious injuries after being thrown by the blast.

The incident occurred on Calle Allende, a short distance from the town’s central plaza and parish church. Although the municipality’s Civil Protection Unit has not officially determined the cause of the accident, the use of welding equipment close to where the pyrotechnic materials were piled up is suspected of sparking the explosion.
