Jalisco governor seeks to lower cost of Nayarit autopista

Jalisco Governor Enrique Alfaro said he will lobby the federal government to lower the cost of the fees set by the Ministry of Infrastructure, Communications and Transportation (SICT) for two new sections of toll road that opened recently between Compostela, Nayarit and Puerto Vallarta.

According to the SICT, the 55 kilometers of new highway reduce the driving time from Guadalajara to Puerto Vallarta by 40 minutes. However, the price of this time saving is high, with the two new sections costing 171 and 223 pesos respectively.   Using the new toll road sections raises the cot of driving to Vallarta from Guadalajara to 1,063 pesos. By avoiding these stretches of faster road, and taking the slower, free federal road, travelers will pay 669 pesos.

The cost of saving 40 minutes or driving time is 394 pesos ($US21) works our at seven pesos a kilometer, or about $US0.40, for 55 kilometers of toll road.
