Flower truck overturns, killing 8 in Nayarit

Nine days after a bus accident caused the deaths of 18 people, families are again mourning relatives who perished in another fatal crash on a Nayarit highway.

pg3aThis time, a truck loaded with flowers to sell on Mother’s Day overturned at kilometer 52 on the Ramal-Compostela section of the Guadalajara-Puerto Vallarta toll road.

For reasons that are still unclear, the three-ton truck left the highway and plunged down a slope into a 20-meter ravine before overturning.

Nearly 30 people, including several minors, were traveling in the truck, which had set out from the city of Puebla. Three men, three women and two children were pronounced dead at the scene, while 20 were injured.  Five were treated at the scene and did not require hospitalization. The remainder of the injured were initially taken to Compostela, and later transferred to Tepic.

The passengers of the truck were on their way to sell the flowers in Compostela and Bahia de Banderas.
