Nation outraged at horrific abduction video

Jalisco has become accustomed to the (almost) daily reports of death and mayhem mostly caused by warring factions of criminal cartels.

The five, aged between 19 and 22, met up at a local mirador (lookout) on the evening of Friday, August 11, and drove off in at least two vehicles to attend a local fair. They were last seen around 11 p.m.

After they never returned from their night out, the parents of the young men contacted authorities, prompting municipal and state police to start a search.

Two days into the investigation, concerned relatives and friends held a demonstration during the half-time interval of the Copa Jalisco soccer game between Lagos de Moreno and Teocaltiche, demanding more urgency from authorities. The game was being attended by the town’s mayor.
