Jalisco excited by Chinese nearshoring boom

Jalisco is determined to take full advantage as Chinese companies seek to relocate (nearshore) their supply chains closer to their U.S. operations.

pg3aOut of 22 projects with Chinese capital that have been in the works over the last five years, eight are now fully operational, according to the state’s Secretariat of Economic Development (Sedeco). This represents an investment of around $US1.4 billion, and the creation of 4,156 jobs, according to Sedeco chief Roberto Arechederra.

The most recent Chinese company to take root in Jalisco is Haitian, a world leader in the development and infrastructure of plastic injection machines, whose $US25 million initial investment has generated 100 start-up jobs. The company began operations in June at its new plant in Acatlan de Juarez, where it plans to produce between 300 and 500 machines annually.

While cities nearer the U.S. border such as Monterrey, Saltillo, Tijuana and Ciudad Juárez would seem the logical locations for nearshoring operations, Jalisco isn’t lagging far behind.
