Rapper killed at Zapopan home

Well-known Mexican rapper Lefty SM (Juan Carlos Sauceda) died from gunshot wounds during a failed kidnap attempt at his house in La Cima subdivision of Zapopan on the evening of Saturday, September 2.

pg5dThe state Prosecutor’s Office said that the singer’s wife, María Isabel, was in the house at the time of the incident but was unharmed. The report said she drove Lefty SM, 31, who had been shot in the leg and abdomen, to the Hospital Real San José, where he succumbed at 1:15 a.m.

On Monday evening, more than 1,000 motorcyclists took part in a vigil for the rapper at the Glorieta Niños Héroes.  After a minute’s silence, calls were made for a full investigation and for justice to be served.

Lefty SM began to accrue a big following in the Latino Hip Hop community after his YouTube site went viral in 2017. At the time of his death, he had 2.77 million followers.

His biggest hits have been in collaboration with fellow rapper Santa Fe Klan, who expressed his shock at the murder, posting, “Tell me it’s a lie” on his Instagram account.

On August 25, Lefty SM had successfully relaunched the single “Por mi México” on YouTube, a collaboration with Santa Fe Klan and some of the most recognized rap and hip hop musicians in Mexico. As of Tuesday, September 5, the video had accumulated ten million views.

Lefty SM was born in San Luis Rio Colorado, Sonora. He worked as a welder while developing his musical talents, which mushroomed after he signed with Alzada, an independent record label in Guadalajara, where he recorded many of his hits.
