Free flu shot campaign begins

Jalisco Health Secretary Fernando Petersen says almost 2.3 million flu shots will be available statewide in Mexico’s annual influenza vaccination program, which runs from this month though the end of February 2024.

According to the Jalisco Health Department (SSJ), for the first time the country will apply a quadrivalent vaccine, which provides active immunization against four influenza virus strains (two A subtypes and two B types) contained in the vaccine.

The vaccine is available to everyone but the key target groups in Jalisco, Petersen says, are children aged from 6 to 59 months, adults over 60 years of age, pregnant women, health personnel and people with chronic diseases such as cancer, diabetes, morbid obesity and others that can provoke immunosuppression (low defense against infections).
