Jalisco rejects Covid vaccines

Jalisco Health Secretary Fernando Petersen said the SSJ will not be offering the Cuban Abdala and Russian Sputnik Covid-19 vaccines during the winter season but would join any campaign that uses either the Pfizer or Moderna brands that protect against the most recent variants of the virus.

Existing stocks of Abdala and Sputnik are being offered as boosters by federal health authorities (also at the IMSS and ISSSTE), while more doses are reportedly on order from these two countries. However, neither of the vaccines has WHO approval, with studies on them undertaken in Mexico dating back to 2001, and offering no data about their effectiveness against the recent strains.
