Eduardo Cervantes Aguilar, the former mayor of Ixtlahuacán de los Membrillos, was gunned down by an unknown assailant Wednesday, October 18 while seated in his car parked on the side of the Chapala-Guadalajara highway across the road from the entrance to the town.
A companion in the passenger seat was seriously wounded in the incident reported at around 5 p.m.
According to witnesses, Cervantes parked his silver Toyota outside the row of roadside shops Shortly afterwards, his companion arrived in a red Camaro with tinted windows. He parked, got out of the car and boarded Cervantes’ vehicle. Moments later an individual dressed in sportswear approached on foot and opened fire on the driver’s side. The gunman was then spotted escaping the scene in a white sedan.
