Governor Enrique Alfaro has joined Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador in calling for a “vote by vote” recount in the Jalisco gubernatorial election,
after allegations from the losing candidate of significant “irregularities” and potential fraud. Claudia Delgadillo, who headed the Morena Party-led “Let’s Keep Making History” alliance, lost by 186,780 votes. She is claiming that she may have been deprived of 300,000 votes that might have been counted incorrectly, although she hasn’t presented evidence of this.
The winning candidate, Pablo Lemus of the Citizens Movement, said he welcomed a vote-by-vote recount, so that the door on the election can “be closed once and for all.” He said he was confident the result would not change.
Delgadillo said Morena has identified inconsistencies in the vote tabulations in all 20 Jalisco voting districts, pointing the finger at state Electoral Institute (IEPC) officials. IPEC says any errors were caused by citizens who volunteered at the polling stations, and not by their well-trained staff members.
