The new United States Consulate in Guadalajara will open its doors to the public on Monday, August 12, according to a press bulletin released by the local diplomatic mission.
The new consulate complex occupies an entire block in the upscale Monraz neighborhood and was officially inaugurated several weeks ago in the presence of Ken Salazar, the U.S. ambassador to Mexico.
The move to the new building should help clear the large backlog of visa applications and renewals for Mexican citizens. Around 2,400 people can be attended to each day in the new premises.
“Over the next few days, we will be sharing important information about the services and features of the new consulate,” a post read on the Consulate’s Facebook page.
The new consulate is located at the corner of Manuel Acuña and Aztecas, across from a Walmart Express. Bus lines serving the zone include T18-1, C01, C104 and C107.
According to U.S. Consul General Amy Scanlon, the new facility has parking available for the general public, but no details of how this feature will operate have been released.
