Jalisco Governor Enrique Alfaro stepped onto the balcony of the Government Palace last Sunday evening to deliver the final Grito of his six-year administration.
Departing from the usual protocol, he added a political message to the traditional shouts of independence heroes’ names.
“¡Viva the Division of Powers!” he exclaimed, a clear reference to the controversial judicial reform that he and many other critics argue concentrates too much power in the hands of the executive and legislative branches.
