Several new reports of assaults have been filed with the Jalisco Prosecutor’s Office concerning a section of the Guadalajara-Colima toll road (autopista).
In one incident, armed highway bandits targeted a driver on the stretch of highway between El Platanar and Atenquique, near the San Marcos toll booth, stealing his 4x4 truck. The victim reported that the robbers chased him down, blocked his truck, and forcibly removed him from the vehicle. They nonchalantly waved along passing traffic while committing the crime, he said.
Other highways in Jalisco where armed assaults have been reported include the toll road between Zapotlanejo and Lagos de Moreno, the section from Lagos de Moreno to Encarnación de Díaz, and the Guadalajara Macrolibramiento.
As he nears the end of his tenure, Jalisco Governor Enrique Alfaro has emphasized the decrease in various types of crime in the state, including highway robbery, attributing this improvement largely to better coordination between state and federal security forces.
