Expo Ganadera brings together livestock, food & fun

Ranchers from across Mexico will showcase their prized animals at the Jalisco Expo Ganadera (Livestock Fair), running from October 10 through November 3 at its traditional fairgrounds in Tlaquepaque.

Considered by many to be the best event of its kind in Mexico, the Expo is open daily from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., with admission priced at 25 pesos for adults.

The fair attracts the country’s top ranchers, exhibiting their finest purebred horses, bulls and prize-winning sheep, dogs, pigs and other livestock. Fun activities for little ones include feeding farm animals.

Since its inception in 1967, the Expo has aimed to educate both younger and older generations about the diversity of farm animals and farming culture, while also highlighting advancements in genetically enhanced livestock.

If massive cattle aren’t your thing, there are plenty of other attractions. You can still appreciate the livestock by sampling a smorgasbord of barbecued delights or browsing leather goods for sale. Around 20 restaurants and food booths will be on-site. Additional entertainment includes dancing horses and musical performances, primarily featuring ranchera artists. The Expo is held at the sprawling Union Ganadera fairgrounds, located at the Glorieta Alamo, where the Chapala-Guadalajara highway meets Avenida González Gallo and Lázaro Cárdenas.
